Post Title: Project Assistant (Part Time) Project Number: CPR/06/209 Project Title: Green Poverty Alleviation Duration: Feb 2007 - July 2007 Duty Venue: Beijing, Xinjiang, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, and other cities if necessary
Part I. Background: The project is aimed to support government efforts to alleviate poverty and accelerate development of rural China especially the western region and communities of ethnic minorities where are ecologically fragile, economically fallen behind and geographically remote. The specific aim of this project is to investigate and promote the application of science and technology as major inputs through organizational support for the development of local communities. This will be done through the integration of rural poverty alleviation with eco-environmental regeneration and energy development to assist in alleviating poverty in these areas and to lay a solid foundation for future sustainable development. Potential technologies and mechanism for income generating and social well-being include: 1) The planting of the Jatropha Curcas L tree in Guizhou, Sichuan and Yunnan in order to provide feedstocks for bio diesel production; 2)The planting of Jarrah Dayun in desert and arid areas as a raw material for traditional medicine; and 3) the application of small-scale wind turbines for poor herdsmen in Inner Mongolia.
Part II. Qualification:
- At least Master Degree in Environment/Energy field;
- Rich experience in project management and coordination, especially international cooperation project;
- Excellent verbal and written English skills.
- Good computer operation skills, especially application of Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and etc.
- Good interpersonal skills and teamwork sprit.
Part III. Duties and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of CICETE Project Manager and the National Project Director,
- Assist in daily operation of sub- PMO located in CICETE;
- Coordinate with MOST, Xinjiang and other project counterparts.
- Prepare annual and quarterly project work plan and quarterly advance payment request
- Assist in organizing seminars and workshops as required by CICETE project manager;
- Provide technical support in specific research and study tour;
- Carry out other tasks as assigned by CICETE sub-PMO.
Part IV. Duration Two full-time working days per week from Feb 2007 to July 2007. The specific starting date will be clarified by the Sub-PMO and project manager in consultation with the candidate.
