Supported by UNDP microcredit program and CICETE, the Seventh China Community Corps (CCC) Conference was held in Nanjing City from March 31 to April 1, 2007. The conference was attended by seventy-six representatives from microfinance institutions (MFI) all over the country and organizations in related provinces. Mr. Dong Hong, Deputy Director of CICETE attended the conference and delivered a passionate speech. He introduced the strategic plan of MFI commercialization, and the participants discussed this issue in a debating way. CCC conference is held as a regular mechanism by CICETE and UNDP microcredit program in order to cite the advanced and promote exchanges of experience. At the conference, CICETE delivered awards to outstanding CCC, outstanding individuals and managers of the local Rural Development Associations (RDA).
CICETE is responsible for managing the largest microcredit program of foreign assistance in China , which is covering forty-eight poorest counties and four big cities. Local MFIs at the grassroots level are all registered as NGOs and facing their challenges for sustainable development in three major aspects: legal status, funding resources and management capacity. According to the policy of both The People's Bank of China and The China Banking Regulatory Commission, CICETE plans to commercialize the grass-roots MFIs and develop commercial financing for them.
