The 5 th Liaison Meeting for leaders from cities along the New Eurasian Continental Bridge was held in Beijing International Hotel in the afternoon of March 8, 2007. The event was organized by Xi'an Municipal Government and attended by Mr. Yuan Chunqing, Governor of Shanxi Province, and Mr. Yi Xiaozhun, Vice Minister of Commerce and Head of International Coordinating Mechanism of New Eurasian Continental Bridge, and ministers from Ministry of Science and Technologies, Ministry of Communications, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and National Tourism Administration. Mr. Dong Hong, Deputy Director General of CICETE attended the event and delivered a speech. The event was also participated by members of Coordinating Mechanism including mayors of fifteen cities including Xi'an, Lianyungang, Zhengzhou, Lanzhou and Urumqi and representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Land and Natural Resources, Ministry of Railway, Ministry of Information Industry, Customs General Administration, Environmental Protection Administration, General Administration of Civil Aviation, and Western Development Department under the State Council.

During the event, participants exchanged their views on existing problems and future development of the New Eurasian Continental Bridge Belt. Representatives of National People's Congress attending this event will jointly submit twenty-one suggestions and three proposals to the National People's Congress concerning infrastructure development, tourism development, ecological protection and cultural protection. A memorandum of understanding was signed by mayors from fifteen participating cities as the conclusion.
