| Mr. Wang Yue, director general of
CICETE and Mr. Bai Chengyu, director from the UNDP/CICETE microfinance
project office, visited Xiang Cheng county and Dao Cheng county in
Ganzi Tibetan municipality, from Oct. 9 to Oct. 15, in Sichuan province.
The purpose of this visit is to learn more about the current management
status and project performance of these two microfinance institutions
(MFIs ) in Xiang Cheng and Dao Cheng, which are under the overall
management of the Comprehensive Poverty Alleviation Approach program
executed by CICETE. The main content of the program is microfinance
to poverty alleviation, and the program has stepped into its second
phase after 2001 when the first-phase program was closed.
Mr. Wang Yue discussed the future cooperative approach with the
managers of the two MFIs. Mr. Bai Chengyu, introduced the workplan
of the microfinance association which will be set up in Beijing
soon, he also made suggestions to the two MFIs on their future development.
Both MFIs expressed their desire to continue the program and hope
to get further financial and technical supports from CICETE.
