UNAIDS/UNDP FARS and Poverty Alleviation Project Starting up

¡¡¡FCICETE, as national execution institution, recently announced the start-up of UNAIDS/UNDP "Fighting AIDS related stigma and discrimination (FARS) in China and Poverty alleviation project". Leading Group Office on Poverty Reduction (LGPR) is designated as the project implementing agency.

¡¡¡¡FARS and Poverty Alleviation, one of sub-project of the UNAIDS funded "FARS in China through GIPA, using an integrated UN system response" programme, is placing its focus on poor rural areas where HIV/AIDS has been seriously affecting the normal life of poor households. The project is divided into two phases: first one is concentrating on the base-line survey and model design associated with FARs and poverty alleviation at the community level; the second is on the establishment of pilot site and model improvement. The whole project activities are expected to finish by the end of 2003. The project will, through a series of approaches including in-depth survey, evaluation, training and pilot building-up, encourage greater involvement and participation of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS and promote an effective FARs system/model in combination with poverty alleviation at the rural community levels.
