D.D.G. Zhao Zhongyi Attending the Launching Ceremony of Volunteer Tutoring and Mentoring Program for Migrant Youth

5 March 2010, Tianjin - To celebrate the eleventh Chinese Young Volunteers Service Day (March 5), the Launching Ceremony of “Volunteer Tutoring and Mentoring Program for Migrant Youth” was conducted at Jinwan Square in Tianjin on March 5, 2010. CICETE Deputy Director General Mr. Zhao Zhongyi attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. The ceremony was hosted by Mr. Shi Qingwei, Deputy Secretary General of Tianjin Youth League. Mr. Pablo Barrera, UN Coordination Specialist in China and Mr. Liu Daogang, Secretary General of Tianjin Youth League, as well as other representatives from China Youth Volunteer Association, Nankai District Youth League, Tanggu District Youth League and Nankai University Youth League were all present at the ceremony.

“The Volunteer Tutoring and Mentoring Program for Migrant Youth” under the UN-Spanish MDG Fund, was an important project initiated by CICETE, UNV, China Youth Volunteer Association and Tianjin Youth Volunteer Association. This joint program will support the college volunteers’ tutoring and mentoring for the migrant youth of two pilot middle schools. It aims to improve access to non-formal education and bridge the gaps in vulnerable youths’ compulsory education. Meanwhile, the project which is of great practical significance, will introduce advanced concept of international voluntary service and volunteer training and management experience to effectively serve the needs of migrant workers’ children.
